Frank Milton Barnes, 91, of Lucama died Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Little Rock Original FWB Church, Lucama, followed by interment in the Newsome Family Cemetery, Lucama. The Rev. DeWayne Eakes, the Rev. John Hill and youth minister Marci Rollins-Smart will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6:30–8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and 10:15–11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Little Rock Original FWB Church.
An Army veteran of WWII, he proudly served in the 3rd and 7th Armored Divisions and the 15th Armored Group as a tank mechanic, reaching the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was a life member (64 years) of Wilson’s American Legion Post No. 13 and served on the Wilson County American Legion Fair Board for many years. In 1987, he was elected president of the N.C. Association of Agricultural Fairs after serving on its board of directors for several terms. He was a lifelong member of Little Rock Original FWB Church, a retired farmer and an avid fisherman.
Mr. Barnes was predeceased by his parents, Frank Thomas Barnes and Montie Newsome Barnes; a sister, Eula Adele Barnes; and a brother, James Ralph Barnes.
Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Esther Pennington Barnes; two sons, Jonathan Bryant Barnes and wife, Brenda, and Neal Jordan Barnes and wife, Nancy, all of Lucama; a daughter, Mary Hollis Barnes of Raleigh; a grandson, Christopher Thomas Barnes and wife, Hillary, of Wilson; a granddaughter, Rebecca Anne Barnes of Greenville; a brother, Carey Newsome Barnes Sr. and wife, Anne, of Weldon; and two nephews, Carey Barnes Jr. of Weldon and Claude Barnes of Whitsett.
The family asks that his wishes be honored by requesting no flowers be sent.
