Joseph Elton Mooring, 78, of Wilson passed away Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Strickland will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service at 1 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Pkwy., and other times at 4026 Townes Court, Wilson.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Joyce Grice Mooring; two daughters, Marcia Mooring White and husband, James Edgar White III, of Wilson, and Lynn Mooring Johnson and husband, Sherrod Johnson, of Clayton; three granddaughters, Elizabeth J. Rush and husband, Corey, Sarah J. Kozik and husband, Daniel, and Mary Slade Mooring Duke; two grandsons, Brandon Johnson and wife, Casey, and Barrett Johnson and wife, Nelia; two sisters, Helen M. Newcomb and husband, David, of Portsmoth, Va., and Judy Gray Craddock and husband, Calvin, of Winston Salem; brother, David E. Mooring and wife, Christine, of Elizabeth City; several nieces and nephews; and his special K-9 friends, BamBam and Piglet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Mooring and Alean Minshew Mooring.
