Johnny Blackwell

Johnny Thomas Blackwell, 73, of Sims, died Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Internment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Chaplin Phil Baucom will officiate.
Mr. Blackwell was employed by Export Leaf Tobacco Co. for 31 years. He traveled extensively in the continental United States, Central America and Africa. He thoroughly treasured all the time spent with his granddaughters and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. In his later years his happiest moments were gardening with his daughter, watching his son participate in bird dog field trials, and any opportunity to ride his tractor. He was a member of Wilson Masonic Lodge #117 and Wilson Sudan Shrine.
The family will receive friends noon-7 p.m. Tuesday at 7116 Rock Ridge-Sims Road, Sims.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife, Sue G. Blackwell, of the home, daughter Beth Blackwell Habig and husband, Mike, of Cary; son, Glenn Thomas Blackwell and wife, Susan, of Sims; sister, Jayne Howard of Oxford; brother, Nelson “Buddy” Blackwell and wife, Judy, of Oxford; three granddaughters, Shelby Blackwell, Kaitlyn Blackwell and Morgan Habig; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy and Mariah Rogers Blackwell.
