Jack Herbert Winslow Sr.

SCOTLAND NECK — Jack Herbert Winslow Sr., 82, better known as Papa Jack to his family, died at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Mr. Winslow was a native of Halifax County growing up in Scotland Neck. He graduated from Scotland Neck High School and furthered his education at North Carolina State College. He was married to the love of his life, Pat Staton Winslow, Oct. 18, 1957, and to this marriage was born four children. Mr. Winslow spent his entire life farming. He started out working on the family dairy and continued out on his own raising row crops and livestock. He received many awards over the years for his farming accomplishments, but his most precious rewards from farming came from getting in the truck riding around the farm with Pat or one of his many children and grandchildren. Mr. Winslow was a simple man who loved the Lord and loved his wife and family with all his heart and soul. He spoke volumes with his simple words of wisdom.

Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Hattie Whitehurst and Nathan Ernest Winslow Sr.; two brothers, Ernest and Tom Winslow; and one sister, Sarah Winslow Bond.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pat Staton Winslow of the home; a son, Herb Winslow of Scotland Neck, and his children, Beau, William, and Alex Winslow, Rachel Winslow Whitehead and husband, Matt; a daughter, Patty W. Holt and husband, Mike, of Wilson, and their children, Winslow and Mary Pat Holt; a son, Ernest Winslow and girlfriend, Anna Bunting of Scotland Neck, and his children, Rebecca and Eric Winslow; a daughter, Sarah W. Sykes and husband, Scott, of Scotland Neck, and their children, Sarah Gregory and John Colby Sykes; two brothers, Zeb Winslow Sr. of Scotland Neck, Lloyd Winslow Sr. of Halifax; and one sister, Ann W. Cox and husband, Joe, of Houston.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m., at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck, with Dr. Allen Cherry presiding.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church fellowship hall of Scotland Neck, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
