Gordon Ray Baker, 61, of Wilson, formerly of Dunn, passed away Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 311 W. Nash St. A graveside service will be held 4:30 p.m. Friday in Mingo Baptist Church Cemetery, Dunn. The Rev. Dr. Doug Murray will officiate.

Gordon was a 1969 graduate of Dunn High School and Campbell College. He worked as a CPA before beginning his career in local government. He worked as CFO of Orange County and the City of Wilson from 1988 until his retirement in 2012. Gordon was the recipient of the Long Leaf Pine Award. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Wilson serving as chairman of the deacon board as well as numerous committees. He was a past member of the board of directors for United Way and Habitat for Humanity.

Gordon treasured life, he honored each day with a positive attitude, a sense of humor, strength of spirit, and an enduring faith and loving gratitude for family and friends. He will be missed.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Cathy Spell Baker; his daughter, Laura Baker Williams and husband, Stewart; his son, Bryan Baker; his grandchildren, Andrew Baker, Rachel Baker, Greyson and Bennett Williams; his parents, Gordon Bradley Baker and Willa Barefoot Baker; his brother, Donald Baker and wife, Cheryl; his in-laws, Janet Thompson, Delano Spell and wife, Betty, Blanche McLamb, Genevieve Humbert, Patsy Markham, Selby Spell and Woody Spell; and his nieces, Roxanne, Amanda and Roseann.
