MIDDLESEX — Floyd A. Whitley, 91, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening surrounded by his family. He was the son of Green Berry and Sally Whitley of Nash County, and a member of Middlesex Church of God. In addition to his parents, brothers and sisters, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie F. Whitley; grandsons, Chris G. Whitley, Peter and Paul Murray; and great-grandson, R. Eric Kyles Jr.
Floyd was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a lifelong farmer, a loving father, an adored grandfather, and a godly mentor to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community.
He leaves behind his wife of nearly 70 years, Joyce Wilder Whitley, daughter-in-law, JoAnne Whitley; children and spouses, Steve and Brenda Whitley, Brenda and Tim Stallings, Dennis and Annette Whitley, Glynn and Wanda Whitley, Hope and Roger Murray; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Saturday at Middlesex Church of God from 7 to 9 p.m. The celebration of his life will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. followed by burial at Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope. Other times, the family will receive visitors at the home of Floyd Whitley.
