Dorothy Williams Griffin, 78, of Bailey went home Thursday to be with the Lord after an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bailey United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Bailey Cemetery. The Rev. David Hutchins and the Rev. Latonya Agard will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and at other times at 11239 N.C. 581, Bailey.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, an active member of Bailey United Methodist Church for 57 years and a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4147. She was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Rock Ridge High School. She loved and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bruce Griffin; two daughters, Janet Griffin Pittman and husband, Jeffrey, of Chesapeake, Va., and Vicky Griffin of Bailey; a sister, Shirley Dew and husband, Bobby, of Bailey; a brother, Lloyd Williams and wife, Mavis, of Sims; beloved cousin, Myrtle Baker and husband, Earl, of Chesapeake, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buddie and Bessie Williams; four sisters, Elizabeth Bissette, Retha Goff, Pauline Gross and Joyce Murray; and a brother, W.B. Williams.
