ELM CITY — Carolyn J. Strickland Atkinson, 66, of 6304 Joyner Road, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at her residence.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the L.N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle, 1800 Lane St. Extension, Wilson. The Rev. Richard Battle will officiate. The burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery on Lane Street Extension.

Precious memories are shared by her husband, Bill Atkinson of the home; her children, Billy Ray Atkinson, Charlotte Atkinson King, Charlene Atkinson Franklin, Camille Atkinson Ruffin and Brock Atkinson; 11 grandchildren, two sisters, Elsie Raye Barnes of Rocky Mount and Bessie Atkinson (Ed) of Elm City; two brothers, James Strickland of Gainesville, Ga., and Herman Strickland of Sharpsburg; three brothers-in-law, Raymond Atkinson, James Atkinson and Ed Taylor; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Atkinson and Mamie “Judy” Barnes (Jeremiah); several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 726 Tarboro Street S.W., with the family receiving friends there from 6:45 until 7:45 p.m. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, where they will assemble one hour prior to the service in preparation for the funeral procession.
