Ann Zimmerman

Ann Bullock Zimmerman, 79, of Wilson, passed away on Sunday, July 5. A memorial service will be held at Joyner’s Funeral Home on Friday, July 10, at 11 a.m. Pastor Steve Clayton of First Baptist Church, where Ann was a member, will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University Health System Hospice, P.O. Box 6028, Greenville, NC 27835, Friends of Hackney Library, Barton College, Wilson, or a charity of one’s choice.
Ann was born in Wilson County on Jan. 11, 1930, to the late L.P. Bullock Sr. and Lanie Strickland Bullock. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, G.W. “Bill” Zimmerman; brothers, L.P. “Blinky” Bullock Jr., Calvin Bennett Bullock; sister, Hildred Bullock Robbins; and nephew, L.P. “Bogie” Bullock III.
Ann received her undergraduate degree from Atlantic Christian College and started her teaching career in Wilson elementary schools teaching 4th and 5th grades. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was assistant professor of education and psychology at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). In 1959, Ann joined the staff at Chapman College (now Chapman University) in Orange, Calif., where she served as Assistant Professor of Education and Director of Elementary Education Student Teaching program for Orange County Schools. She also served as Chapman’s dean of women on the “World Campus Afloat” program where she had the opportunity to travel around the world. Ann returned to Wilson in 1990 to be closer to her family. After returning to North Carolina, Ann stayed involved with many community activities, Barton College activities and church activities. Ann is survived by nephew, Ashley Ervin Robbins Jr. (Joan), of Wilson; nieces, Dottie Bullock Wilkerson of Sylvania, Ohio, and Janet Robbins House (David) of Knightdale. Ann is also survived by a stepson and stepdaughter of California. Other survivors include six great nieces and nephews, Robb Robbins of Cary, Robert Wilkerson (fiancée, Tricia) of Baltimore, David Robbins of Valdese, Tammie House Noble (Chris) of Snow Hill, Julie Wilkerson Smith (Brendan) of Sylvania, Ohio, and Chris House (Melissa) of Raleigh; four great-great nieces and nephews; and a step-great-great-niece and nephew.
